Accessibility statement
We want rhein-code.com to work well for everyone – including people who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard only, zoom in, or have low vision. This statement covers the German and English versions of the website, including the free online tools.
We publish this statement voluntarily, to be open about where we are and what still needs work.
Compliance status
This website is partially conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA. Known limitations are listed below.
What we have done
- Sufficient colour contrast in both the light and the dark colour scheme
- Visible keyboard focus and full keyboard operation, including the menu, language switcher and file uploads
- A “skip to content” link, clear page regions (navigation, main content, footer) and a clean heading structure
- Labelled form fields, with error and confirmation messages that screen readers announce
- Correct language settings for German and English pages
- Less motion when your system is set to “reduce motion”
- Purely decorative images and emojis are skipped by screen readers
How we tested
- Automated tests with axe-core, pa11y (including HTML_CodeSniffer) and Google Lighthouse on all main page types, in light and dark mode and at desktop and smartphone widths.
- Manual checks: keyboard-only use, focus order, layout at 320 pixels wide and 200% zoom, colour contrast.
- Not done yet: testing with screen readers (e.g. NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver) and testing with people with disabilities. Automated tests typically find only some of the barriers.
Known limitations
- PDF files created by our tools (e.g. invoices, receipts, delivery notes, business cards) are not tagged as accessible PDFs (PDF/UA).
- The tools under “Free tools” (images, PDF, colours, units, JSON, text, password, quotes) and the XRechnung and ZUGFeRD generators only have a German interface – also under the English address. These pages are marked as German so that screen readers use the right pronunciation.
- Results from external validators (e.g. for e-invoices) are shown in their original wording, which is technical and partly in English.
- Many tools and guides are only available in German.
